Every travel eSIM on the market — ours included — carries data, not a phone number. But in practice you lose nothing: your regular SIM stays active for calls, texts, and bank codes on your normal number, and WhatsApp or Telegram calls run beautifully on the eSIM's data. And because Beamline is also a calling app, you'll soon be able to ring any Ethiopian number — landline or mobile, no app needed on their side — straight from Beamline over that same data. How do I install the eSIM?
Buy a plan in Beamline, then tap Install on this phone — iOS opens its own setup sheet with the profile pre-loaded (iOS 17.4+). Prefer another phone? Scan the QR code we show you, or type the SM-DP+ address and activation code manually in Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
Does my phone support eSIM?
iPhone XS/XR and newer do, as do most recent Android flagships. Carrier-financed phones are sometimes eSIM-locked until paid off — check Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM to confirm.
Do I get an Ethiopian phone number?
No — travel eSIMs are data-only, industry-wide. Your own number keeps working on your regular SIM next to it, and app calls (WhatsApp, Telegram, and soon Beamline calling to any Ethiopian number) ride the data.
When should I install it?
Before you fly, while you have good internet. Enable it when you land — activation typically starts when the plan first connects in Ethiopia.
What does it cost?
