Voice calls to Ethiopia

In-app calling is built but not switched on yet, so it isn't in the app you'd download today. When it lands, Beamline-to-Beamline calls will be free. Pricing for calls to other Ethiopian numbers hasn't been announced yet.

Cash transfers

Send money straight to a bank account or mobile wallet at a fair exchange rate. We're working through the licensing and partner side properly rather than rushing it.

Where Beamline is going

One connection to home. Every layer of it.

Beamline is climbing a ladder — each rung keeps your family connected in a new way, on the same account and, eventually, the same monthly bill. Here is the honest state of every rung: what works today says live, and nothing else pretends to.

  1. Live

    Bundles & top-ups to Ethiopia

Airtime, data bundles, and the $13.25 unlimited — delivered to an Ethio Telecom number in seconds.

  2. Live

    Family Plan

Everyone covered monthly on one bill — two people save 5%, three or more save 10%.

  3. Live

    Travel eSIM for Ethiopia

Buy before you board, land in Addis with data already working.

  4. Planned

Beamline Mobile — your US line

A US phone plan from the same app: unlimited US talk & text with generous data, honest cost-based add-ons for calling Ethiopia, and free Beamline-to-Beamline calls home.

  5. Planned

    US 5G home internet

Home internet for diaspora households, on the same Beamline account.

  6. Planned

One family plan across the ocean

Your US line and your mother's Addis unlimited on one bill — discounting each other like any family plan should.

  7. Planned

    Satellite internet for the village

You fund the dish and the monthly service from abroad; the family home gets online — even past the edge of the mobile network.

  8. Planned

Cash transfers — last, by design

Money moves only when the licensing and partner side is fully in place. We sequenced it last on purpose, and we'll say so plainly until it's ready.

The Family Plan fee is charged once per plan, not once per person — a plan covering six relatives still pays a single $2.99 monthly fee. From time to time we run a launch promotion that reduces or waives the service fee; whatever applies to your order is shown on the confirmation screen before you pay. Bundle prices come from Ethio Telecom and can change.

The short answers

The things people ask before they download.

How long does delivery take?

Normally seconds. Beamline sends the order straight to Ethio Telecom through our fulfilment partner, so it usually lands before you've put your phone down. If a delivery fails, you're refunded automatically to your original payment method — you never have to ask.

Does the person in Ethiopia need the app?

No. Airtime and data land directly on their existing Ethio Telecom line. They don't need to download anything, create an account, or even know Beamline exists. All you need is their phone number, entered as 09… or in +251 international format.

Which network do you deliver to?

Ethio Telecom — the network most families in Ethiopia already use. The top-up goes to the same line they use every day, so there's nothing for them to switch, activate, or set up on their end.

What if I want to send every month?

Set up a Family Plan instead of re-sending by hand. Pick your relatives, choose a bundle for each, and it renews once a month as a single charge — with 5% off for two people and 10% off for three or more. Pause, resume, or cancel any time.

Is my card safe?

Card details are collected and processed directly by Stripe, our payment processor. Beamline never sees or stores your full card number. Your account itself is protected by a verified US phone number and a password you choose.

What does it cost to use the app itself?

Nothing. Beamline is free to download, free to create an account, and has no membership fee. You pay only for what you send: the airtime or bundle price plus a flat $1.99 service fee, or $2.99 a month for a whole Family Plan.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

How do I send airtime to Ethiopia from the US?

Download the free Beamline app, create an account with your US phone number, and add the person you're sending to using their Ethiopian mobile number. Pick an airtime amount or a data bundle, check the exact total, and confirm with your card. The top-up is delivered to their Ethio Telecom line, normally within seconds. There's a step-by-step guide here.

How much does Beamline cost?

The app is free and there is no subscription to use it. You pay the airtime or bundle price plus a flat $1.99 Beamline service fee — $2.99 on the top Unlimited bundle. A Family Plan pays one $2.99 monthly fee for the whole plan, no matter how many relatives it covers. The exact total is always shown before you confirm. See the full pricing table.

What is the Beamline Family Plan?

It's one monthly subscription that keeps several relatives in Ethiopia connected at once. You pick the people, choose a bundle for each of them, and pay a single combined charge each month. Two people save 5%; three or more save 10%. You can pause, resume, or cancel the plan at any time from the app. More about the Family Plan.

Does the person receiving need the Beamline app?

No. Airtime and data land directly on their existing Ethio Telecom line. They don't need to download anything, create an account, or even know Beamline exists — all you need is their phone number. Beamline sends to Ethiopian mobile numbers, entered as 09… or in +251 international format.

Do you offer an eSIM for traveling to Ethiopia?

Yes — Beamline sells prepaid Ethiopia travel eSIMs, from short-trip plans up to 10GB and more for a long stay, starting at $16.50. Buy one in the app before you fly, install it in one tap, and land in Addis Ababa with data already working. See how the Ethiopia eSIM works.

Can I call Ethiopia with Beamline?

Not yet. In-app calling to Ethiopian numbers is built but not switched on in the released app, so it isn't something you can use today. When it launches, calls between two Beamline users will be free. Pricing for calls to other Ethiopian numbers hasn't been announced yet.

Can I send cash to Ethiopia with Beamline?

Not yet. Cash transfers to a bank account or mobile wallet are in progress and marked coming soon in the app. Today Beamline covers airtime, mobile data bundles, Family Plans, and Ethiopia travel eSIMs.

What happens if a gift doesn't arrive?

You are refunded automatically. A delivery that fails is reversed to your original payment method without you having to contact anyone, and the app shows the order as refunded. If something still looks wrong, email [email protected] with the recipient's number and roughly when you sent it.

What do I need to sign up for Beamline?

Just a US phone number to create and verify your account, and a card to pay with. Card details are handled by Stripe — Beamline never stores your full card number. The people you send to need nothing but their Ethiopian phone number.

Is Beamline available on Android?

Not yet. Beamline is available now on the iOS App Store for iPhone. An Android version on Google Play is coming soon.
